DO YOU HAVE SERIOUS DEBT PROBLEMS?
2006
Are creditors harassing you at home, at work, and through the mail? Are you unsure whether you will ever be able to retire or pay off your debts? If so, filing bankruptcy may be right for you. Filing bankruptcy can wipe away some or all of your debts and will stop creditors from contacting you. Most consumers file for either Chapter 13 or Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. Our firm primarily practices in Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.
WHAT IS CHAPTER 7 BANKRUPTCY?
Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, or Straight Bankruptcy, is a form of bankruptcy where most debts are discharged. When a debt is discharged, the debtor no longer has an obligation to pay the creditor. Every debtor is entitled to keep some or all of his or her property under either the state exemptions or the federal exemptions. Most debtors we work with keep all of their property. A skilled bankruptcy attorney is necessary to enable a debtor to keep as much property as is allowed by the law.
WILL FILING BANKRUPTCY AFFECT MY CREDIT?
It is unclear whether filing bankruptcy may adversely affect your credit. Filing bankruptcy can be a necessary step to establishing good credit. For some people, filing bankruptcy and starting over enables them to establish good credit by being able to pay all of their post-bankruptcy bills. However, it does depend on the individual filing and their creditors. The law does limit how long your credit record can mention that you filed bankruptcy to seven years for most purposes.
